Classes are well underway at St. Brieux School and it has been a busy time. The school is buzzing with excitement as construction is in progress for our new renovation and expansion! We kicked off the expansion with a sod turning ceremony, which was held on September 14. We had phenomenal attendance with many of Horizon’s dignitaries present to help us celebrate.
Our school has now reached 305 students. This is a huge number to accommodate in our small facility and this is without calculating the number of staff members that are present as well. I speak on behalf of everyone when I say how much we need this renovation/expansion. In our renovation, we will be fortunate enough to receive three new classrooms, central AC, an Industrial Arts room, a Home Economics classroom, and much more! I am looking forward to seeing the Industrial Arts room completed! These additions will be greatly utilized by all of our students. We already have a new parking lot, which is located on the East side of our school. We also just received a new playground at the school due to some hard work from the community. The playground boasts our school colors, black and gold, proudly. It is an awesome playground and the kids (and older kids) are making great use of it! It is just incredible to be able to witness the great changes that are happening all around our school!
When students look out the window of any classroom there will always be something that has changed or is being worked on. Currently, we can access our gymnasium only by going through the bathrooms. This makes assemblies extra difficult! It is especially hard to concentrate when you hear and see gravel trucks and back hoes moving all over the place and everyone is watching, in awe, and thinking… the expansion is really happening! I am currently in Grade 11 and even though I probably will not see most of the renovations completed, I am still thrilled at the opportunities younger students will have because of these renovations. This renovation means everything to this school; in the hallways you can just feel the excitement of everyone and for that we are blessed!
From everyone at St. Brieux School, we thank those who have helped make this dream a reality.
